‘Supporting contemporary makers through commissions’ is a booth talk with The Goldsmiths’ Company, renowned for their promotion of excellence and craftsmanship in contemporary British silver. Dr Dora Thornton, The Goldsmiths’ Company curator, will discuss with Angela Cork, Patrick Davison and Jessica Jue, what their commissions for the company have meant to them and to their development, as shown by their work at Collect.

Collect Booth talks are dynamic events that happen on a stand for the visitors that are there at the time of the talk - there is no pre booking for booth talks, just come along!

 

DR DORA THORNTON

Dr Dora Thornton is the Goldsmiths’ Company Curator. She researches and publishes both contemporary and historic silver, jewellery and medals. Her most recent book is The Brooch Unpinned, which explores brooches in the Company’s Collection made between 1961 and the present. Leading a small team and working with the Company’s Contemporary Craft Committee, she also purchases and commissions new pieces for the Collection. The latest report on these acquisitions reveals how the Company’s pioneering support for contemporary makers continues to inspire artistry and excellence in precious metal as it moves towards its 700th anniversary in 2027.
